La Japonaise · 穿和服的卡米尔
Camille wears a red kimono embroidered with a samurai and holds a fan; the wall behind her is a fan shop's worth of ukiyo-e prints. Monet made the picture to ride the japonisme fashion of the 1870s, and it worked — it was a hit at the second Impressionist exhibition.
Kept by the Monet family, then in the Hoschedé collection; acquired by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 1956.
Reproduction print on cotton canvas. Not an original artwork, not a limited edition, and not signed. Colours may differ slightly from your screen.
