Poppy Field 1873

Coquelicots · 罂粟花田

A field of poppies near Argenteuil, with a woman and child in the foreground and the same pair repeated further up the slope. The repetition reads almost like a film cut, and it is one of the earliest pictures to treat a landscape as a passing moment rather than a place.

About the work

Shown at the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874; entered the French national collection in 1903.

Print

Reproduction print on cotton canvas. Not an original artwork, not a limited edition, and not signed. Colours may differ slightly from your screen.
